We pretty much knew this, although the EXACT number of episodes of the shortened run was never confirmed until now.
Glee co-creators, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk confirm with The Hollywood Reporter that the sixth and final episode of the musical comedy will run for 13 consecutive episodes. That’s cut down from the original 22 episode order.
Season 5 had been trimmed from 22 to 20, after the series fell behind its production schedule. Last summer, Glee star, Cory Monteith, died a few weeks before filming was to begin on the season. After extending the hiatus by a few weeks, the writers and producers scrambled to write out the beloved star–who played the lovable Finn Hudson–in a fitting manner. The cast and crew also got a week off after filming the gut-wrenching tribute “The Quarterback.”
The series never really recovered from that huge loss. After a bump in ratings for the emotional tribute, the ratings, for the most part, declined for the rest of the season.
In Glee’s final season, the action will move back to Lima from New York City (the last 7 episodes of Season 5 took place solely in the Big Apple) and will bring the veteran Glee clubbers back to Ohio to resurrect and reinvigorate New Directions, which had been disbanded by principal Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch).
