With 52.96% of reports in, Selena Gomez is set to top the chart this week. In a neat convergence of numbers, Selena turned 21 on the 22nd and released this latest album on the 23rd. Her sales have strengthened from her last album which opened with 78K (this one is predicted to have 90-100K in sales and has already posted 73K in sales). When was the last woman to top the chart? Taylor? It seems like it has been a while. You go girl!
Jay-Z, who topped the chart for the last two weeks has slid down to 2nd. Will Teen Beach be the new Highschool Musical? It aired for the first time on July 19th. The soundtrack sits at third (rising from 9th the previous week) giving the Disney labels two albums in the top 3. Not bad for the House of Mouse which is actually an independent label (but totally a major indie).
J. Lo’s ex Marc Anthony is 4th, the Kidz Bop Kids are 5th, Rich Gang is currently debuting in 6th, Imagine Dragons are 7th, Justin moves up to 8th, Florida Georgia Line moves down the line to nine, and Sara Bareilles closes out the top 10 in her second week.
There are two reality singing show contestants in the mix this week. Phil Phillips from American Idol leads the charge with “World From the Side of the Moon” at 38th. Right behind him, at 39th, are surging boy-band, One Direction from X-Factor UK. They released a new single last week for their new album and that probably re-ignited interest in their previous album, “Take Me Home” which zoomed back into the top 50. One Direction and Olly Murs also appear on Now 46 at 23rd.
