With 78.54% of reports in, Muse is well on the way to its first number one album on the BB200. Their previous best effort was number 2 on the BB200 with “2nd Law” in 2012 (that’s a whole lot of 2’s!). “Drones” is lucky to come out in a relatively weak week because it is only expected to do 70-75k in sales and about 5K more in TEAs/SEAs.
Debuting in second is another band from the UK, Of Monsters and Men. While Muse is more Alt-Rock, Of Monsters and Men lean toward folk Rock. Currently in third, but expected to end up 4th in sales, is one of the original British Invasion groups, the Rolling Stones. Florence and the Machine (also from the UK) were first last week and expected to be third last week are currently in 5th. So, it looks like the British rockers are taking the first four slots on the sales charts. Taylor Swift will of course upset the tea party with her TEAs and SEAs and end up around 3rd on the combined chart (she is currently 4th on the sales chart).
Now Country 8 is currently 6th on the sales chart, but will get no help from TEAs and SEAs. The album features alumni from Nashville Star: Miranda Lambert and Chris Young. Given the current state of Country music, you may not be surprised to discover the Miranda Lambert is the lone female solo act on that album. That’s NOW! for Country.
Currently in 7th is another Country act, A Thousand Horses with their first album “Southernality” (okay…). The Soundtrack for Pitch Perfect 2 is at 8th (and Pitch Perfect 3 has just been announced). Sam Hunt is riding 9th and Mumford and Sons makes it 5 British rock bands in the top 10.
Now 54 features Tori Kelly, Kelly Clarkson and One Direction and is currently at 15th. Now 53 only features One Direction and it is at 42. The Empire Cast recording is at 47th and Maroon 5 is 23rd (representing the judges).
Adam Lambert’s album is out this week and we will likely get an estimate of its sales tomorrow.
