With 69.31% of reports in, Kelly Clarkson is running away with first on the sales chart. Kelly is American Idol’s original winner and she has had a very successful career spanning more than a decade. It is unclear if “Piece by Piece” will be the number one album of the week on the BB200 (she may be beat by 50 Shades of Grey when streams and downloads are added to the album sales), but she will debut no further back than second and have the top debut of the week. This will be her 7th top 10 album and her sixth studio album to debut in the top 3 (her Greatest Hits album makes a total of 7 albums, but it is not considered a studio album).
Fifty Shades continues to sell very well and its singles are popular. It is a distant second in sales, but doing well with its singles. Taylor Swift always does well everywhere. She is third and likely to stay there. Drake is proving that rappers don’t have to start big and then fall off a cliff. He’s been steadily in the top 5 for a while. Brandi Carlile is representing Alt Country and she is 5th with the second highest debut of the week (this could be her second top 10 album). Big Sean was number 1 last week and slid to 6th this week. Kid Rock challenged for first last week and is 8th this week. Ed and Sam are in the top 10 as usual. Hit singles will do that. They are 7th and 9th. Now 53, featuring a track from One Direction, is 10th.
Reality show singing competition shows are also represented by Carrie Underwood (American Idol) at 37th and One Direction (X-Factor UK) hanging at the bottom of the chart at 50th. Judges are represented by Adam Levine’s Maroon 5 at 13th.
