Substitute fired for lecturing child about his adoptive dads – The classroom at Deerfield Elementary School must have looked and sounded like thousands across the country. Late November, fifth graders excited about the holiday coming up, and a substitute teacher asking, “What are you thankful for?” But when an eleven year old named ‘D’ answered, things veered off course. “I’m thankful that I’m finally going to be adopted by my two dads,” D said. ‘D’ has been in foster care for years…and has been through two failed adoptions, so his thankfulness was genuine. But the substitute told the boy that he shouldn’t be thankful for that. Men shouldn’t live together, she said. It’s a sin. Fellow students walked out of the class and to the principal’s office to tell her what the substitute was continuing to say to the class. “She’s wonderful she’s been really amazing,” said Josh van Amstel, one of D’s adoptive dads. The principal escorted the substitute teacher out of the school. “She said, there’s the door, keep walking,” Louis van Amstel said. Louis is famous as a champion ballroom dancer and longtime performer on Dancing With the Stars. – Read more at FOX13NOW.com
Ballroom dancers say immigration clampdown hurting business – When no Americans replied to her ads seeking a dance instructor, studio owner Chris Sabourin looked overseas. But she was stymied again by a federal tightening of visa application rules she and others contend is hampering the ballroom dance industry. Sabourin had to eventually give up after a year and thousands of dollars trying to hire a top ballroom dancer from Greece to teach at her Fred Astaire studio in Orange, Connecticut, only to have the woman detained at New York’s Kennedy Airport and sent back home. “It would just be nice to know why we’re having such a hard time,” Sabourin said. “It’s affecting our business, definitely.” With a steady interest in learning iconic dances like the foxtrot and tango, fueled in part by “Dancing with the Stars,” studio owners like Sabourin say their efforts to hire professional instructors are hampered without overseas help. – Read more at APNews.com

This time, a Voice staffer saw a video of her singing and sent her an invitation. “When they told me that, I had to roll with it because two weeks prior I had prayed for exposure, so I just went on ahead and rolled with it,” Rose told Parade.com. “I had been through the process, too, with another show, and I was like, ‘I don’t know if I want to go through this,’ but everybody here is so cool, so nice and so inviting. That makes this whole process that much easier.” – Read more at Parade.com
Trump dropped from Terry Fator’s show on Las Vegas Strip – The seasonal showcase is “A Very Terry Christmas 2, The Sequel,” which opened Friday night at Terry Fator Theater. Fator has edited out one prominent figure: President Donald Trump, a focal point of Fator’s regular stage show and also Christmas show over the past 3½ years. The Trump puppet, with his pop-up hairpiece, has been sidelined from both shows until further notice. In a rare maneuver, the hotel itself asked Fator to make this onstage change. “It was kind of one of those things where the Mirage came to me, and they have never told me what to do, ever. But they asked politely, and when they ask politely, I do it,” Fator said after Friday’s show. “We have a good relationship. It’s a give and take. I’m not a diva. I’m not going to go off and say, ‘Screw you’ when they ask me to do something. But they said, ‘This political season is very, very, very rough and it’s going to get nastier. Would you mind?’ I said, ‘Fine, I’ll do it.’” – Read more at Las Vegas Review-Journal
