After The Show: Top 14 – AMERICAN IDOL
The Fastpass four talk about what was going through their heads before the judges advanced them to the Top 10.
An “American Idol” success story – “It’s one thing to sit in the studio and be creative, and that’s something I really love, but to get out on the road and play these songs and get that immediate feedback, that’s what it’s all about,” he said. “It was one of my least favorite things about being on Idol. You performed and then would have to wait 24 hours before figuring out what people thought. I love that interaction. I try to make a one-on-one split-second connection with as many people in the crowd as I can.” – Read more at Fairfax Times.com
Ruben Studdard Once Needed Five Cops to Peel Off an Overly Attached Fan – American Idol Season 2 winner Ruben Studdard may seem cuddly, but that doesn’t mean he’s OK with a stranger holding him so tightly the police have to come get her off. Plus, Harry Connick, Jr. complains about “Hotline Bling” being too catchy, Season 10 runner-up Lauren Alaina recalls the time she met Justin Timberlake, and Keith Urban gets cocky. – See the Video at SeattlePi
Why Jennifer Lopez Said “Hell No!” to Giving Kelly Clarkson American Idol Advice – “Advice? Hell no! I think she knows exactly what this is all about. She was the first Idol. She’s watched 15 seasons of it now,” Lopez says. Clarkson is a pro with albums and albums behind her, so she’ll be fine, Lopez tells us. Connick said he feels the same way. “She’s going to be great. I’m going to sit back and just listen, because if anyone knows how to judge on American Idol it would have to be her…” Read more at EOnline
Melanie Martinez finds voice with ‘Cry Baby’ – Martinez, 20, says much of the album, which uses alt-pop and electro elements, comes from a very personal place. “Cry Baby” refers to the title character, and her experiences inform each song. “It was really important for me to write down a whole bunch of titles and pair them with a situation that I was going through at that time. It was really fun for me to tell stories like that and flip different childhood scenes and make them more adult,” she says. Martinez has already started tinkering with new sounds and ideas for the next album. She promises videos for every song and a deeper look into Cry Baby’s world. “Cry Baby is just this one character in this weird town. I really want to focus on other characters on the next albums. Everything will still be from her perspective. She is always the narrator,” Martinez says. “The whole idea is for all my albums to connect and tell a bigger story.” – Read more at Houston Chronicle
