American Idol winner Iam Tongi releases acoustic version of “Starting All Over Again” ahead of “Maui Strong” livestream

American Idol winner Iam Tongi participated in a livestream Friday night to raise money for those affected by the Maui wildfires that devastated the historic town, Lahaina.

Ian premiered an acoustic version of Israel Kamakawiwo?ole’s “Starting All Over Again,” which he recently sang on Good Morning America. The singer-songwriter announced on social media that he released the song on all platforms, with proceeds going to Maui relief. “I want to continue to do my part to help Maui, so I recorded a full performance of Iz’s “Starting All Over Again,” he wrote on Instagram, “This song really touched me recently so I’ve just released a full version of the song (out now on all platforms) and will be joining some of my idols in support of those affected by the Lahaina fires…”

“The #Mauistrong Benefit Livestream is raising financial resources towards the immediate and long-term recovery needs of the people & places affected by the Maui wildfires,” Iam continued, “I too will be donating all the proceeds from “Starting All Over Again” to those affected.”

Fleetwood Mac’s Mick Fleetwood performed alongside Gretchen Rhodes “and friends, while The Police’s Stewart Copeland led a “Drums for Maui” segment, backed local musicians from the island. The livestream also featured LL Cool J, Lukas Nelson, Nathaniel Rateliff, Fred Armisen, Sarah McLachlan, Ziggy Marley and others.

Iam Tongi will be hitting the road this fall

The singer-songwriter wants his fans to know that he’ll be hitting the east coast on tour in October and November. “I’m heading your way in October,” he promises in an Instagram caption alongside his schedule. Iam is also set for concert dates in September, including the Promiseland 2023 festival in Australia. He’ll perform at the Eden Festival in New Zealand on October 7.
