Kara DioGuardi Booed at TCAs After Refusing to Answer ‘Idol’ Question
The producers, DioGuardi and fellow Platinum judge Jewel, worked strenuously to differentiate their show from the Fox juggernaut during a panel discussion here at the semiannual Television Critics Association press tour. And when DioGuardi refused to answer a question about her departure from Idol (Was she pushed? Did she feel she was treated unfairly?), she was booed.
Which at least pried loose this nugget from DioGuardi: “It was an incredible experience. It really was. But I’m here as a hit songwriter and I’ve sold more than 150 million albums and that’s why I love this show… because it helps me empower young songwriters.”

Universal Casts Its Vote on American Idol
“It’s a show that needs work, we all know that, but the concept is great, ” says Iovine. “This is about making the music better and making these kids really grow as artists.”
Universal will encourage contestants to sing songs by its recording artists, who include Lady Gaga, Bon Jovi, and Justin Beiber. That could renew interest in them similar to how Fox’s hit series Glee has rekindled interest in bands including Journey, whose Greatest Hits album has ranked among top-sellers on iTunes since its song Don’t Stop Believin’ was performed by the program’s youthful cast.
