I-95 Truck Crash Killed Driver Hauling Equipment To Carrie Underwood Concert

The trailer, with staging equipment, tumbled down the embankment and landed on the median, blocking southbound lanes of Taugwonk Road. The driver’s portion of the tractor trailer vaulted into the air after striking the bridge abutment and fell, landing upright facing west on Taugwonk Road.

The driver was an Oklahoma man in late 40s, family members told Fox 61. Police say the driver’s body was charred so badly he will have to be identified by his dental records. His identity was withheld until police notify his next of kin.

Underwood mentioned the driver’s death during her concert Saturday night and sang “Temporary Home” as a tribute.

This season, many of the American Idol contestants are buying their clothes from Century City retailer Metropark — where on Thursday, Crystal Bowersox purchased her Top 11 week ensemble. On Friday afternoon, Smug Teen Witch Katie Stevens came in to use her $500 clothing allowance at the Idol-friendly store.

The Katie Haters

You may not realize it from the local coverage, which cherry picks only positive comments seen “on the Internet” to put on its front page, and from TV coverage that doesn’t stray far from the same restanrant and firehouse near her house.

But the fact of the matter is: A lot of people are not supporting Connecticut teen Katie Stevens’ bid to become the “American Idol.” While she continues to garner enough votes to stay in the competition, the former frontrunner is sliding down fast not only in the estimation of the critical judges, but among oddsmakers, the general “Idol” fans and those who cover the show.

Accompanied by Samantha Ronson and her brother Mark, the “American Idol” runner-up paid little attention to the paparazzi as they walked right past.

Mr Lambert arrived in London earlier this week as he is to begin his massive radio tour first in the UK and then in Germany.

Meaghan’s serenade: Former ‘Idol’ star Gokey greets local fan

The night Danny Gokey got voted off of American Idol’s eighth season, one of his most ardent supporters didn’t even know about it. She had something more important to deal with at the time.

“I was in New York, learning how to work with Whitney, ” said Meaghan Bynum of Wartrace.

Whitney is a butterscotch blonde with big brown eyes and a sweet, enthusiastic personality. And four feet and fur. She’s a part Lab, part Golden retriever and she is now Meaghan’s guide dog, her new “eyes” and her ticket to independence. Meaghan has been legally blind “pretty much all my life, ” she said.

Simon Cowell’s uncommitted commitment

Was anyone else a bit unsettled by Simon Cowell’s confirmation of his engagement to Mezhgan Hussainy? It wasn’t the fact that he has been so outspokenly anti marriage for so long; it was the way he put it: “I do have somebody in my life now. And I kinda made a decision this year to make someone happy.” Blimey. He might as well have said: “I’m doing this because she deserves a fantastic break — but don’t hold me responsible if it doesn’t work out.” Who knows how Hussainy took this lukewarm declaration, though I’m guessing not well. On the list of things men might say that would make you reconsider, this scores a hefty 9 — a 10 being “I have realised I am more attracted to my own sex, and I’d like you to meet Randy”.

How we got ‘Grease’: Co-creator Jim Jacobs talks about the birth of his rock and roll blockbuster

Those who have wondered whatever became of Hicks since the gray-haired crooner exhausted his brief window of post-“Idol” fame will be relieved to know that he has been happily toiling away in his role as Teen Angel, which he landed in 2008 shortly before the show departed Broadway. Hicks, who spoke to The News from a tour stop in Pittsburgh, said he initially was nervous to perform on Broadway but has since eased into the role.

“I was probably more nervous doing a Broadway show than I was performing on ‘American Idol, ‘ just because I’d never done musical theater or acting before. It was a big step for me, but yet I believe it was the right step, ” Hicks said, in the thick Southern drawl that endeared him to the legions of “Idol” fans who came to be known as the “Soul Patrol.” “You do definitely have to be disciplined and committed, but if you love your role and you love what you do, then it’s not really work.”

Ahoy! It’s a big-budget wedding on the good ship Simon Cowell

He is hardly a man known for his modesty, and now Simon Cowell wants to get married in the Caribbean – on a yacht he will name after himself.

Ignoring nautical superstition that renaming a vessel is bad luck, the X Factor mogul intends to buy a luxury boat for his marriage to Hollywood make-up artist Mezhgan Hussainy and call it The Simon Cowell.

A source said: ‘Simon sees Barbados as his home from home. It would be such a great place to get married, and the plan is to do it at sea. The idea is to pick up all the guests in Barbados and then sail to St Barts and get married there.

Review: Carrie Underwood At MGM Grand

Carrie Underwood has made as much of success on “American Idol” as anyone, selling more albums in the U.S. than any other singer the show has thus far spawned. The 27-year-old Oklahoma native who won the show’s fourth season put the wares that endeared her to the country on boisterous display Saturday night at the Foxwoods casino’s MGM Grand Theater in Mashantucket, spinning out sunny and slick pop country that rarely veered from the middle of an only slightly dusty road.

Underwood’s primary appeal is a confluence of hooks and hair, both of which were at their fluffed up best as she opened with the lively “Cowboy Casanova, ” her voice an angular presence that slipped its leash at every opportunity. Flecks of pedal steel guitar seeped from the eight-piece band behind her, but there was no mistaking for anything from down home the bubblegum foundation on which “Quitter” was built.
