PRIMETIME PILOT PANIC: 2nd HOT LIST
The Broadway-themed SMASH starring Debra Messing and produced and directed with the hands-on involvement of executive producer Steven Spielberg, continues to march toward NBC’s 2011-12 schedule. The project, an early favorite because it was the only NBC pilot developed by new chief Bob Greenblatt back when he was at Showtime, is getting great reviews, with many singling out the breakout performance of former American Idol finalist Katharine McPhee.

Steven Tyler rocked this way!
You only live once — unless you’re Steven Tyler. He’s had three lives — ’70s rock god, ’90s comeback kid, and now, resident jester on “American Idol.”
It’s amazing Tyler (pictured, in 1987) survived at all.
In his new memoir — “Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?” — the Aerosmith frontman is brutally frank in chronicling decades of drugs, sex and rock ‘n’ roll.
He recalls hailing a Manhattan cab with the late John Belushi following a 12-hour band session.
“We were so obsessed with copping that night when the cab driver asked Belushi, ‘Where ya headin?’ he answered simply (and loudly), ‘Cocaine!’ ”

Carrie Underwood joins Vince Vaughn as Green Men celeb target
When Sully and Force, better known as the Vancouver Green Men, appeared on Puck Daddy Radio Thursday, they told Wysh and Pizzo they would be in attendance for tonight’s Game 2, and gave a warning to singer Carrie Underwood, the wife of Nashville Predators forward Mike Fisher(notes).
As they’ve done in the past with actor Vince Vaughn — including Wednesday’s Game 7 against the Chicago Blackhawks — the Green Men took a cutout of Underwood and dressed her in a Canucks jersey, plastering it on the glass next to the penalty box as Jordin Tootoo(notes) was serving a first period minor:

Taylor Hicks Plotting New Album
Hicks plans to tour for most of the summer while he prepares to record his next album. I had a chance to speak with him before the show about his upcoming plans, and he said the new album will be “roots oriented.” He described the vibe as “Jackson Browne meets Zac Brown.” Hicks went on to say that his goal is to make good, organic music that is true to himself, which is also an apt description of his live shows.

White House Correspondents Dinner Party: An Inside Look
Always one of the more well-attended events of the year, the stars were in the nation’s capital for the TIME/CNN/People/Fortune White House Correspondents’ dinner cocktail party on Saturday night (April 30).
Held at the Washington Hilton, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama welcomed guests including Scarlett Johansson, Sean Penn, Paula Abdul, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer.

‘Idol’ finalist Brooke White has high hopes for music career
Singer-songwriter Brooke White may have been introduced to the world through “American Idol, ” but with the exception of happenstance collaborator and “Idol” judge Randy Jackson, White is now out on her own.
Unlike White’s 2008 “Idol” competitors David Cook and David Archuleta, White was not handed an album deal. Instead, she’s been building a fanbase one self-penned song, and one show at a time.
