The ex-factor: She was supposed to be ‘The One’ but Simon Cowell’s fiancee hasn’t been seen with him since May
For that matter, she wasn’t around for any of the Britain’s Got Talent semi-finals, finals or at the after-party. On these occasions, it was Sinitta who was his female companion.
Stranger still, sources in America say that Mezhgan didn’t even attend the after-party for the finale of American Idol this year – the show on which she works – and where he was making his last appearance as a judge.
No wonder rumours are circulating that Cowell and Mezhgan, who got engaged in February after a whirlwind seven-month romance, may be further from marriage than ever. Since theirs was to have been ‘the showbiz wedding of the year’, with celebrations on both sides of the Atlantic, it is all very surprising. So what is going on?
‘I am loathe to comment, I’m too fond of Simon, ‘ says an old friend of his, when asked whether the rumours that they have split up are true. That is very far from being a denial.

‘American Idol’ ripped off my idea, says Texas retiree Edward Lyda
A Texas retiree is taking on a producer of “American Idol, ” saying he created the audience voting system the hit show uses.
Edward Lyda, 66, filed a patent in 1999 called a “Response Apparatus Method and System” that allows a television show to have people text-message their responses, according to the lawsuit in Manhattan Federal Court.
“Idol” first aired in June 2002.
“This is intellectual property and they infringed on his patent, ” said lawyer David Fink of FremantleMedia North America.
‘Idol’ finalists ready to hit the road
Casey James sits on a stool on stage, an acoustic guitar slung around his neck as the other nine singers in the Top 10 from this season’s “American Idol” gather like disciples in a semi-circle before him.
“And Jesus said!” James intones in mock seriousness, his Blonde Jesus looks and the biblical tableau prompting laughter from everyone in the Burbank soundstage on this morning.
James strums the strings and all 10 begin to sing a song you won’t find in your hymnbook anytime soon – Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You, ” done in a multi-harmony version à la “Glee” – and the annual Idol press day hits full stride.

Constantine Maroulis returns to Bergen County for a show at Mexicali Live
“It is nice on my night off to do a little something different, ” Maroulis said during a phone interview on his drive toward the Inner Harbor, “although I could probably use a break.”
Once an “American Idol” heartthrob, Maroulis now busts out eight-show weeks at a theater on West 47th. He headlines the show, which covers everything from Journey to Poison.
“Little rough to be wailing that much Whitesnake, ” Maroulis said. “But I love it, man. I think I’m built for it.”
The Crowd: Major support for foster youth
The afternoon was also fronted by “American Idol” winner Fantasia Barrino, who won the competition in 2004 during the third season of the mega popular talent show. Her success led to two hit CD releases and a recent stint on Broadway starring in “The Color Purple.” Fantasia is now working on a third CD and performing in season two of her own VH1 reality show.
The young performer used no notes as she told the crowd of her own rise from youthful struggles, including dropping out of high school, facing a severe learning disability and becoming a teen mother to a baby daughter. Barrino stressed the theme of the day, which was the significance of education, telling the audience that she returns to her high school to encourage young people to graduate and follow their dreams.
“You can overcome whatever your challenges are and succeed, ” she said.
