More on Casey James’ guitars
Turns out Casey James doesn’t play five guitars on four songs. He plays six guitars on five songs, since he also plays on the American Idols Live show’s finale, a cover of Bon Jovi’s It’s My Life.
Here’s the rundown:
More Headlines after the JUMP…
Simon Cowell Brokered Piers Morgan’s CNN Deal
“[Morgan] was under contract to us on ‘America’s Got Talent, ‘ so he called me and we helped sort of broker the deal, ” Cowell said. “I knew about this weeks ago.”
No official word on whether Morgan is taking over the vacating veteran newsman Larry King’s spot, but Cowell is confident in Morgan’s interviewing skills. “Piers is without question the best interviewer I’ve ever been interviewed by… apart from you, Terri.”
As for who will replace him on “Idol, ” Cowell is finally dropping names. “I’d say the hot rumor, and I always thought this would be, Harry Connick Jr. — I thought he was good.” What about Bret Michaels? “Maybe, but he’s been ill, hasn’t he? I’ll call him up and ask him.”
Ratings Race: ‘America’s Got Talent’ Keeps Growing; ‘SYTYCD’ Slips Again
Maybe ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ executive producer Nigel Lythgoe will blame ‘Twilight’ fever for last night’s 12 percent drop in the coveted 18-49 demo. ‘Eclipse’ set a new record for a Wednesday movie premiere, which may have pulled some viewers away from ‘SYTYCD, ‘ but that doesn’t explain the 11 percent drop the week before.
Welcome to the Ratings Race. Each day, we’ll take a look at the previous night’s overnight ratings report from Nielsen and see if we can make sense of some of the numbers. There’s a lot to pay attention to, and the numbers can get confusing. ‘America’s Got Talent’ scored a 3.4 in the demo, with an 11 share. That’s even with last week’s ratings, despite a 5 percent increase in total viewers. Why is that? What does it mean?
Why the world needs Mary Murphy, Paula Abdul, and David Hasselhoff
At about 2 a.m. on Tuesday night, while I was writing my So You Think You Can Dance recap, it hit me: I really, really miss Mary Murphy. This is not a conclusion I ever expected myself to come to — I mean, I am the intrepid journalist who physically held a decibel meter up to Ms. Murphy’s mouth two years ago to measure just how loud her trademark scream really was, and my eardrums are still bleeding ringing. And yet this season I’ve found Mary’s replacement on the SYTYCD judging panel — Mia Michaels, the Emmy-winning choreographer with a history of terrifically cutting commentary as a guest judge on past seasons — to be a shocking bore. She’s polite and constructive and articulate. She thinks about what she’s going to say before she says it. And she’s never, not once, done this.

Jordin Sparks comes home a headliner
Jordin Sparks received a hometown welcome when she arrived in Tempe Thursday night, with the massive crowd roaring as the pop diva took the stage. Though the show took place at the mid-sized Marquee Theatre, Sparks and her top-notch band played every song like they were rocking the largest stadium. The result was a show full of slick, top-notch performances, but one that left the crowd feeling a little ignored.
Originally from Glendale, Sparks rose to national fame when she was 17, winning the sixth season of “American Idol.” Originally earning fans with her charming good nature and powerful voice, Sparks has come a long way since that 2007 victory – with two Top 10 albums, visits to the White House, her own clothing line and the National Anthem gig at Super Bowl XLII.
SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE’s Nigel Lythgoe on Alex Wong and hip hop, plus who could give Wong competition for the win
When SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE judge and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe hit backstage after Thursday (July 1) night’s elimination show, the first thing I asked him about was Alex Wong and hip hop. Where did the ballet dancer pull that swagger from?
