Big Mike and Idols roll into town
Lynche is the guy Idol fans know as Big Mike. He stands 6 foot tall and weighs in at more than 300 pounds (for the imperially challenged, that’s 1.86 metres and 136 kilograms). He’s built like a linebacker, but his pre-Idol occupation is listed as “personal trainer.”
It was obvious from the start when he sang Unchained Melody that Lynche possessed one of the finest voices in the competition. He liked old-time soul and performed it well, but his top-heavy appearance didn’t necessarily fit the Idol mould. He finished in fourth place, earning him a spot in the top-10 tour that comes to Copps Coliseum Sunday.

Taylor Hicks on Alabama’s Gulf Coast: ‘I know how important our beaches are to us’
Hoover native Taylor Hicks, 33, has filmed a series of TV spots for the Alabama Tourism Department, encouraging people to visit the state’s beaches and spend time and money there.
“As an Alabamian, I know how important our beaches are to us, ” Hicks said. “I know how important the environment is for tourism and the economy. We’re a prideful state, and we love our beaches.”
“I had my guitar down there, and I kind of made up a jingle, right there on the spot, ” Hicks said. “It’s a heartfelt jingle for our beaches. I’ve been contemplating finishing that song and giving the proceeds (from sales) to the Gulf. It’s in the very beginning stages.”
