Randy Jackson – Time to Himself – Suddenly finding himself with a lot of free time on his hands, Randy Jackson was spotted at LAX yesterday … heading out of town. As TMZ first reported, Randy will not be back as a judge on the next season of “American Idol,” but will transition into a “mentor” role on the show. As for who will be filling his seat … Mariah Carey has signed on and Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban are thiiiis close to putting pen to paper. Meeting Phillip Phillips in person at 680/The Fan event – Phillip Phillips, the Leesburg “Idol” winner for season 11, is still in the middle of the “Idol Live” tour but he took advantage of a day off to fly down to Atlanta Friday to perform for the Bud Light Downtown Touchdown Centennial Olympic Park free concert sponsored in part by 680/The Fan, the sports station. Phillips also got to see some family who drove up from South Georgia and pocket some extra moulah, too. – Read more at AJC

‘The X Factor’ U.S. Season 2 premiere event will have Q&A and celebrity guests – “The X Factor” U.S. will have a world premiere event for the show’s second season at the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on September 11, 2012. As previously reported, all of the show’s judges (Simon Cowell, Britney Spears, L.A. Reid and Demi Lovato) will be there, and several “X Factor” alumni (including One Direction) are also on the guest list. First, all four judges will be honored with a handprint ceremony on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, at 6 p.m. Pacific Time. Then at 7 p.m. Pacific Time, there will be a screening that will highlight the first and second episodes of “The X Factor” U.S.’s Season 2. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the show’s judges, and the Q&A will feature questions from a moderator and select members of the audience. – The Examiner
