James Durbin talked to CBS news about the process of creating his sophomore album, Celebrate, due out April 8.
The American Idol alum co-wrote 10 of the 11 songs on the record, having a much greater hand in the songwriting than he did on his debut, Memories of a Beautiful Disaster.
“We’d sit down for an hour or so and just get to know each other and talk about our interests and what we like to write about,” Durbin told CBS News about co-writing songs for the disk. “We’ll just try to dig each other up a little bit and find things that have happened in our past and stuff that we’ve never written about. So it was really fun.”
In the midst of a nationwide acoustic tour, James performed “Parachute,” the lead single from Celebrate.
James told CBS that he is really enjoying the new season of Idol, comparing the judges panel to that classic 70’s comedy, Threes Company. While Jlo is undoubtedly Chrissy Snow and Harry Connick Jr is Jack Tripper–does that make Keith Urban Janet Wood? The hair is about right. Heh.

James does his favorite impersonations
James does his best Pee Wee Herman impression. It’s pretty good, actually! Bill Cosby and Elmo too.
