Jennifer Hudson COULD Achieve EGOT After Tony Nomination

Jennifer Hudson
(ABC) JENNIFER HUDSON

The EGOT is closer than ever for American Idol season 3 alum Jennifer Hudson following Monday’s (May 9) 2022 Tony Award nominations.

So far the singer has won an acting Oscar for Dreamgirls in 2007; two performing Grammys including best musical theater album for The Color Purple, in 2017, and best R&B album for Jennifer Hudson, in 2009; a Daytime Emmy as executive producer on the VR animated film Baby Yaga.

The Tony would give Jennifer the final major awards show trophy she needs to join the elite EGOT club, which includes The Voice coach John Legend, Whoopi Goldberg, Andrew Lloyd Webber and more.

And Jennifer definitely has a good shot at EGOT. She’s is nominated as a producer for A Strange Loop, which topped the Tony nominations with 11 nods. The musical from Michael R. Jackson follows a Black queer man trying to write a musical as he grapples with his identity.

The production, which won the Pulitzer Prize for best drama in 2020, is up for best musical, best direction, best lead actor, best featured actor, best featured actress, best original score, best orchestrations and best book, best scenic design, best lighting design and best sound design of a musical. See the list of nominations for A Strange Loop below, and check out the full list of Tony nominations at TonyAwards.com.

Jennifer will shoot an action thriller this summer, launch a talk show in the fall

Meanwhile, Jennifer has been cast alongside Sam Worthington, Milla Jovovich, Quvenzhané Wallis, and Common ith the Stefon Bristol action thriller Breathe. Principal photography is expected to begin in Pennsylvania this summer. The story follows a mother named Maya (Hudson) and her daughter (Wallis) who are forced to live underground after Earth is made uninhabitable due to a lack of oxygen.

Additionally, Jennifer will host an afternoon talk show The Jennifer Hudson Show that will be launched on FOX owned TV stations in Fall 2022.

The Tony Awards, hosted by Ariana DeBose, will take place LIVE from Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Sunday, June 12 (8:00 – 11:00 PM, LIVE ET/5:00 – 8:00 PM, LIVE PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming live and on demand on Paramount+.
