Jennifer Hudson Wins Daytime Emmy, One Award Short of EGOT

Jennifer Hudson, Executive Producer/Actor,

Jennifer Hudson only needs to win a Tony Award to join the elite group of artists who have won all four major awards Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. Or as it’s nicknamed, EGOT.

This, after the singer/actress and Respect star won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Interactive Media for a Daytime Program in her role as executive producer of the immersive VR experience Baba Yaga. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) announced the award on Thursday (Sept 9).

“What an incredible honor it is to win my first Emmy Award! And for it to happen on such a uniquely special and forward-thinking project as a producer makes it all the more special,” Jennifer said in a statement.

“I am so grateful to have worked alongside an extraordinary team of innovative thinkers and creative minds to help bring the world of Baba Yaga to interactive platforms for everyone to enjoy. A huge thank you to the Television Academy, Eric Darnell, Mathias Chelebourg, the AMAZING cast, Maureen Fan, Kane Lee, Larry Cutler, and my entire Baobab Studios family!”

Jennifer won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 2007 for her role as Effie White in the motion picture Dreamgirls, based on the Broadway musical. Additionally, in 2009, the American Idol season 3 alum and former The Voice coach won Best R&B Album in 2009 for her self-titled set.

Now, Jennifer needs to be cast in a smash Broadway musical so she can win a Tony award and join the likes of John Legend, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Whoopi Goldberg, Mel Brooks, Audrey Hepburn, Rita Moreno and more in that lofty group of EGOT artists.

Jennifer took to social media to express her gratitude, and show off some jewelry! “Wow God wow!” she wrote excitedly. “I’ve had this ring for quite some time! For me it always represented the day I would have an Emmy, Grammy & Oscar! An early bday gift! U can’t limit God! It’s a story only God could write! U will always see me try & I hope u will too!”
