Jordin Sparks Visits the Kelly Clarkson Show, Sings to her Son, Talks New EP
American Idol winners unite! Season 6 champ Jordin Sparks joined OG winner Kelly Clarkson on her talk show to help celebrate new moms. The livestream featured big ticket giveaways, celebrities and more. On it, Jordin sang “You Are My Sunshine” to her son Dana Isiah, which Kelly confessed brought her to tears.
After replaying the moment with Jordin and her young son, Jordin and Kelly chatted about the singer’s upcoming EP, Sounds Like Me.
Note: I’ve searched high and low through Jordin’s social media accounts. I can’t find any promotion of this EP whatsoever. I have no idea when it’s coming out.
Jordin explains how she named her upcoming EP, Sounds Like Me
Jordin explained how she was sitting in the garage with her husband Dana going through all of the songs from the record, trying to decide which ones to use when she said to herself, “Wow. Every single song sounds like me!” It was a eureka moment. “That’s it babe. I got it.” She knew what to name her record.
Jordin continued: “I feel like for the first time I’ve gotten to put out some amazing songs and pieces of work, bodies of work and I feel like for the first time with this…there aren’t any crazy traumatic memories attached to the songs. I’m in a very loving place and so each song that I did even if it was a sad song doesn’t have anything crazy connected to it. ”
“It’s the first time I really feel like each song really has a piece of me and people are going to be able to hear that.”
Kelly notes how competing on American Idol allowed them to explore different genres
Kelly and Jordin both share the love of all types of musical genres. “I’m very eclectic in my taste in music,” Jordin explained. But she always felt compelled to pick one genre of music. “But I feel like now with the freedom that I have I can do whatever I want. So you’re going to get a big eclectic piece of music for me. And I think everybody’s gonna love it!”
Kelly notes that competing on American Idol gave them both a leg up. “I think because of how we got in the industry, coming from American Idol. It’s a talent show. We got to sing different songs every week that were possibly from completely different genres, and I think because of that, it gave us a leg up in the sense that I do a lot of different things and you do a lot of different things and people are more accepting of it because of that.”
Kelly added, “We’re the lucky ones, we get to do what is our purpose and what we enjoy doing.”
