Katharine McPhee’s son’s nanny dies, she leaves husband David Foster’s Hitman tour to deal with “family tragedy”

Katharine McPhee announced that she was unable to perform in the last two Jakarta, Indonesia stops on her husband David Foster’s Hitman Tour due to a family emergency.

“Dearest Jakarta fans,” Katharine wrote in an Aug. 11 Instagram message, “It’s with a heavy heart I announce I have to miss our final 2 shows of our Asia run. David and I have had a horrible tragedy in our family and at least one of us needs to get back home to our family. Please know how sorry I am and how much I wish to return one day and perform for you all. Love, Katharine.”

Now, TMZ has more details on what happened. Sources close to the American Idol alum tell the outlet that their son’s nanny, who they considered family, passed away. Circumstances surrounding her death have still not been revealed. Currently Katharine is on route to the United States.

The singer had been set to perform at the Sentul International Convention Centre on Aug. 11 and Aug. 12 along with David and the tour’s fellow special guests Michael Bolton, Loren Allred, Peabo Bryson and Raisa.

Friends post their support

After hearing the news, several commenters sent along their well-wishes.

“Sending you and David love,” David’s ex-wife Linda Thompson wrote under Katharine’s post, “& hoping that everything is OK.” Added DWTS alum Amanda Kloots, “Sending you loads of love. I’m thinking of you guys.” The Masked Singer judge Nicole Scherzinger wrote, “Sending my love and prayers for your family.” Katharine and David were contestants on The Masked Singer as the duo costume Banana Split.

Former American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi and Hit Man regular and Idol alum, Pia Toscano also sent their support.
