American Idol Judge Katy Perry Teases What’s New and What She’s Looking For on Season 18 – What’s new this season? We’ve asked people to identify themselves as what kind of artist they think they are. Some people think they’re R&B and Soul, and some people think they’re Indie or folk rock, and they’re not that at all. So, it kind of gives us a view into: Do you know who you are as an artist? We’ve also changed something that’s been a structure of Idol for a long time and it was the biggest curve ball for these kids who, some of them were very smart, they’re like, “I’m just going to go back and watch all the seasons and just learn from that.” We’re like, “Oh really? Well, here’s a curve ball. This is something new that you’ve never done.” So, they’re all like, “Oh, no!” It was fun to see how they handled that because this industry is all about curve balls. – Read more at Parade

We are also relieved that this is no longer a secret.” His wife adds that their baby on the way “is truly a dream come true,” telling PEOPLE, “As a first-time mom, I’ve felt really vulnerable navigating this new territory, but the kindness from fellow moms has help put me at ease, along with the support of my husband.” – Read more at People
‘American Idol’ judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan give us their audition dos and don’ts – Don’t audition with one of the judges’ hits. Bryan says “performing one of our songs” will turn them off immediately. Perry adds, “Uh-huh! Thinking that’s going to get them through, as though we’re just so …buyable!” Don’t change up a well-known song so it’s unrecognizable. “Another [mistake] is when they take a classic and … do something weird with it,” says Bryan, recalling one contestant who took Paul Abdul’s “Straight Up” and, as Perry puts it, “Jack Johnson’d it.” – Read more at Good Morning America
You’ll Want to Put Marie Miller’s ‘Butterfly Collector’ on Repeat This Weekend – “I wrote ‘Butterfly Collector’ with my friend Kris Allen,” Miller says. “We wanted to write a song that almost seems like an old folk song. Exclusive: Kimberley Locke Talks Live Show, Fiancé and Dr & the Diva! – Do you stay in touch with any of the other contestants from the second season of American Idol? I do! I have talked to Ruben (Studdard) and Clay (Aiken) in the last year. We all stay in touch as much as we can. If you were trying out for American Idol now, what song would you choose for your audition? That’s difficult! Definitely not Lizzo. When you are nervous, you can forget everything so you need to choose a song that you know inside and out. That’s why I chose Somewhere Over the Rainbow. – Read more at Feeling the Vibe.com
