Watch American Idol OG winner and The Voice coach Kelly Clarkson sing the National Anthem at Sunday’s (May 26) Indianapolis 500 race. This was the second consecutive year and third time overall she has performed the anthem before the Indianapolis 500, as she also sang in 2011 with Seal while accompanied on piano by David Foster.
And as a special bonus, Kelly’s The Voice team member, Chevel Shepherd, winner of season 15, performed a powerful version of “God Bless America.”
It was a The Voice two-fer.

Kelly was caught on camera tripping on the red carpet. But as always, she treated the situation with self-effacing good humor. “best part of my day is always revealing to people that might not know how utterly not cool I am. That damn crack was hidden by the carpet man!” she joked on Twitter.

Also, Kelly dragged a twitter user who criticized Chevel’s performance: “I didn’t actually sing that song today but the 16 yr old girl that did, nailed it. Also, think about the fact that U signed in online & took the time 2 drag a 16 yr old girl. Really think about it because Ur showing the worst side of U & I have faith that you’re cooler than this.”
