Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock have settled their bitter divorce case. According to reports, Kelly is walking away with most of the assets, although she’s paying Brandon support. She will have primary custody of their two children.
L.A. Superior Court Judge Scott Gordon has just signed off on the terms, reports TMZ. Kelly will have primary custody of their children River (7) and Remington (5). Brandon, who lives in Montana, will have the kids one weekend a month for the time being.
As has been already reported, Kelly will keep the Montana ranch, but Brandon is allowed to live there until June 1. However, he is required to pay her $12,500 a month in rent. If Brandon moves from Montana to another state, the custody arrangement will be re-evaluated.
Kelly will pay ex-husband spousal support
Brandon challenged the couple’s pre-nup, but after a trial the judge affirmed its validity. According to TMZ, Kelly earns about $20 million a year. It’s a sum she does not have to share with her ex-husband. However, Brandon will get spousal support equalling $115,000 a month, which ends in January 2024. Kelly will also pay him $45,000 a month in child support. She will also pay Brandon 1.3 million as part of the overall settlement.
Although Brandon will only have the children one weekend out of the month, the amount is determined by the overhead he needs to pay to ensure the two can stay with him comfortably. Kelly’s lawyer can go back to court and ask for an adjustment, for instance, if Brandon moves to another location and the overhead expenses change.
The American Idol OG winner has been a single woman since September. The Voice coach and American Song Contest host has also dropped Blackstock as her last name and legally changed her name to Kelly Brianne. Her middle name is now her last name. However, the name change doesn’t mean Kelly’s afternoon talk show will be called The Kelly Brianne Show. The singer will keep Clarkson as her stage name.
