Kelly Clarkson on Wanting a ‘Healthy’ and ‘Fun’ Work Environment

In a recent interview with Nancy O’Dell on TalkShopLive, Kelly Clarkson reacted to the accusations that The Kelly Clarkson Show workplace is toxic. She also shared more about moving the daytime talkshow, which is up for 11 Emmy awards this year, to New York City.

“For the most part, I’m getting my show settled, and we’re establishing an amazing crew, we’re figuring stuff out, you know, on the inside, obviously, and we’re figuring it out to where we’re going to have a great time and a great workplace,” she said.

The American Idol OG winner told NBC that she’s “getting too old to work in an environment that isn’t healthy and, like, fun.”

“I had to do that for years in meetings and working with really incredibly mean people sometimes, so I just didn’t want to do that anymore. So I’m focused wholly on the talk show for a minute, but I also am working on things in the background.”

As far as moving The Kelly Clarkson Show to New York City for the 2023-24 season, Kelly admitted that breaking the news to her cast and crew was difficult.

Kelly is moving the show to be closer to family on the East Coast

“I was like, ‘You guys,’ and it was like through tears, cuz I have built such an amazing group of people. Obviously, we’ve been very successful and I love everybody I work with and we have such great relationships,” she continued, “So I talked to them because I was like, ‘Guys I need you to know what’s happening. It’s either I’m not going to be able to continue with the show or I got to go East Coast.’”

Covid contributed to her decision to move, explaining that “isolation” and “being far from your family” isn’t “good for anyone.”

“I gotta make a change for me and my family”

“And my family is East Coast. They’re North Carolina-based. So it was one of those things where I just had to, you know, also there was a lot of personal things going on, too. Where I feel like our family, me and my kids really needed a fresh start and I just could not get it here [in Los Angeles].”

“I was like, ‘Y’all I love doing this show, I really do, I didn’t even know I would, but I gotta make a change for me and my family. So any chance we can maybe do this, I know we can’t do this from my ranch, so any chance we can do it in New York, which is at least closer to my family. ‘Cause they’re like an hour flight away so that was really the main reason.” Kelly said, “The decision was 100 percent her own.”

She’s working on a project for Broadway

She’s also currently writing a project meant for Broadway.

“I’m in love with theatre and Broadway and all of that, and I never thought I’d get a chance to do anything like that, so eventually I would love to do something,” Kelly told TalkShopLive

“I’m in the works of, like, writing something right now…for Broadway” she said.

The singer is getting ready to release her next album, chemistry

Kelly is getting ready to release chemistry, her first studio album since Meaning of Life… in 2017. The set is due out June 23. The album chronicles her 7 year marriage and and eventual divorce from Brandon Blackstock.

Having chemistry with someone is an incredible, and overwhelming, feeling,” Kelly said in a press statement. “It’s like you have no choice in the matter. You are just drawn to each other. This can be good and bad. This album takes you down every path that chemistry could lead you down.”

The singer just wrapped up another season as a coach on The Voice and will play a Las Vegas residency in July.
