Kelly Clarkson is a busy lady, which means there is no time to get sick.
The American Idol OG winner and The Voice coach who will premiere her new NBC syndicated talk show on Sept. 9, is out on the promotion circuit. This week, she graces the cover of People magazine.
Back in May, Kelly hosted the live Billboard Awards with painful appendicitis. But that wasn’t all. The singer had another health scare a week later while taping The Voice live shows.
“I just didn’t want to leave people hanging,” Kelly says of plowing through the three hour Billboard awards on May 1, introducing acts and singing numerous songs, as her doctors hovered on the sidelines at the ready.
“I was just thinking about trying to relax,” she says. But in reality, “I was in so much pain!”
The morning after the BBBMs, Kelly was wheeled in to the operating room to have her appendix removed. The following Monday, Kelly was back to work. when pain struck again as the cameras rolled.
“Blake [Shelton] was talking to me and all of the sudden, everything he said just went away and I had to grab his arm and I was like, ‘Something is wrong.’”
This time, it was a cyst bursting on her ovary that sent her back to the hospital. “That was more painful than the appendicitis,” she confessed to People. “It was literally a week after my surgery so I was freaking out!”
After another trip to a busy Emergency Room–Kelly asked around “Anyone a fan? can someone help me get a hospital room?”–she recovered once again, and since then, all has been well Still, the back to back health scares thew the singer for a loop.
“I was hysterically laughing and crying at one point in the E.R. like ‘What is happening?’” she said. Thankfully, “I’m great now. I’m totally great now.”
Besides her new afternoon talk show, Kelly Clarkson and her fellow coaches Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and John Legend will be back on the panel for The Voice season 17, premiering Monday September 23.
