American Idol OG winner and The Voice coach Kelly Clarkson performed the national anthem Monday ahead of NASA’s launch of SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
Due to coronavirus concerns, she performed the anthem remotely from her cabin in Montana.
“I’m over the moon about being asked to participate in #LaunchAmerica ? … get it? I love space jokes,” wrote Kelly on Twitter. ” ? ? The Demo-2 launch is happening now and @NASA is live tweeting it!! Safe travels to everyone on board!”

The SpaceX Demo-2 is the first crewed space mission to be launched from U.S. soil since 2011. The launch was originally scheduled to take place at 4:33 p.m. ET. But unfortunately, astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley will have to wait until Saturday–if all goes well– to head to the International Space Station via the Crew Dragon spacecraft propelled by a Falcon 9 rocket.
The launch was called off at 17 minutes to lift off due to inclement weather. It has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 30, at 3:22 PM ET.
