Fox to Produce ‘Masked Singer’ in House With New Unscripted Studio – Fox Entertainment is launching a new in-house unscripted studio, and bringing production of reality hit “The Masked Singer” in house. “On the unscripted side, we’ve also begun to establish in-house production capabilities. Moving forward, this decision gives us a stronger ownership position and greater creative control over our programming while keeping production costs down, and generating additional revenue,” Charlie Collier, CEO of Fox Entertainment, said Thursday during the company’s investor day. “As a result of this initiative, ‘The Masked Singer’ will be produced in-house and our budget will be significantly below that of Season 1.” – Read more at The Wrap

‘American Idol’ Top Five Make Their Final Arguments to Voters: Exclusive – It’s officially crunch time. With just two weeks left in season 17, it’s time for the American Idol top 5 to make their closing arguments. In a season that has seen the remaining contestants sing more of their own original songs and distinguish themselves with blues grit (Wade Cota), a killer redeption story (Laine Hardy), stunning originals and guitar playing (Alejandro Aranda), country charm (Laci Kaye Booth) and preternatural skills (Madison VanDenburg), this Sunday’s Elton John-themed performance show could seal the deal. So far they’ve let their personal stories and musical skills tell the story. But Billboard asked the top 5 to grab the mic and make a final, personal bid to get America to get those votes rolling in this week. – Read more at Billboard
Between hosting American Idol, Live, and radio, even Ryan Seacrest wasn’t sure he was going to be able to pull it off – Little does he know, his name is also going to be announced in a couple hours at the Daytime Emmy Awards, which are being handed out not too far away in Pasadena, just outside of Los Angeles, winning Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host with his Live partner in crime Kelly Ripa. He was named permanent cohost on May 1, 2017, a year after Michael Strahan moved over to Good Morning America. “I kept telling everybody I could do it but I wasn’t quite sure I was going to be able to pull it off,” he tells EW of returning to host Idol — Fox canceled the show in 2015 and ABC officially revived it in May 2017, not long after Seacrest joined Live — while holding down daily talk show duties alongside Ripa, plus fronting his own four-hour iHeartRadio show. “And we’ve got it down to a science. It’s the most I’ve ever worked.” – Read more at EW.com
Bobby Bones on Whether America Got the Top 5 Right and Picking Songs For the Semi-Finals – “If anyone should do it, I feel like I deserve that pressure because I’ve been with them since Christmas,” Bones told reporters after last week’s show about making the song selections. “I know them. I know how tired they are, I know what they like to sing. I know if they’ve been comfortable or if they haven’t. So, I’ve picked songs based on their temperament because I know them all individually, which really is a bonus for me.” “I’m glad the judges saved Laci,” he comments on the fact that Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan finally used their one save of the season. “I think that was the right move. She’s so distinctive. I root for her because she goes up and does Journey as a country-ish song. I love the bravery. – Read more at Parade

Howard Stern: Being an ‘America’s Got Talent’ Judge Was the ‘Most Uncomfortable’ I’ve Ever Felt – “Throughout my career I had put myself in uncomfortable situations, from dressing in women’s clothing on the Late Show With David Letterman to donning the infamous ass-baring Fartman costume on the MTV Music Video Awards to concealing my face in elaborate makeup to impersonate Michael Jackson on a pay-per-view New Year’s Eve special,” Stern, 65, writes in a new excerpt obtained exclusively by Us Weekly. “Yet appearing unguarded and undisguised on AGT might have been the most uncomfortable I had ever felt.” – Read more at US
