You might have recently seen Kris Allen performing a David Bowie tribute with some of his fellow American Idol winners on the iconic show’s series finale. The season 8 winner is now back to work promoting his 5th studio album, Letting You In. The singer has just released the official video for the record’s latest single titled, “Waves.”
In a recent behind the scenes video clip, Kris tells the story of how he wrote “Waves” on an airplane. “I had almost the whole song done by the end of the flight,” Kris shares.
“I started singing all these lyrics,” Kris said, “And the melody just started flying out!” Kris added: “There are songs that inspire records. Because it was one of the older songs for this record…it inspired the whole thing. It inspired some of the soulfulness that’s in the record…I think this is a really special song.”
In the clip, shot in a hazy bluish light, Kris sings and plays guitar on the damp tiles of what looks like a public pool. It’s a back drop for a boy and a girl frolicing in the water, about to take a metaphorical plunge into the treacherous, exhilarating world of romance.
