Lakisha Jones Will Avoid Jail Time After Paying Father’s Bills

American Idol season 6 alum, Lakisha Jones, will avoid jail time after paying money on Tuesday (Jan 20) that a judge said she owed her father’s nursing home and an attorney.

From MLive:

Genesee Probate Judge Jennie Barkey earlier this month ordered Jones to turn herself in to the jail by Friday, Jan. 16, to serve a 45-day sentence after she was found guilty of civil contempt of court.

Barkey said Jones, who lives in Texas, could avoid jail time if she were to pay by the Jan. 16 deadline the more than $5,000 she still owed to one of her father’s nursing homes and another $2,000 in attorney fees for a lawyer the judge had to appoint to represent Jones’ father.

Jones failed to turn herself into the jail or pay the money by the deadline. But, the money was turned over Tuesday, Jan. 20, to Jones’ attorney, Christopher Ebbott.

The order for her to turn herself into the jail will now be dropped.

According to court records, Flint native, Lakisha, was granted full guardianship of her father Aug. 7, 2012, after he was released from Hurley Medical Center in June 2012 following a stroke. The singer got into trouble after she failed to pay his bills from the social security check he receives each month. Lakisha lives in Texas while her father still resides in Michigan.
