It’s a Maddie Poppe update! The American Idol winner continues to make make media and concert appearances while also rehearsing for the American Idol Live tour, which begins July 11.
On Thursday (July 5) Maddie dropped by the Ryan Seacrest radio show for an interview and performance.
“A lot of awesome things have happened,” Maddie shared with Ryan about her life since winning Idol. The singer sang at the Hollywood Bowl (she performed a song for the Frozen sing along a few weeks ago). She also played Amerifest at the Rose Bowl on the Fourth of July. “It’s just one thing after another,” Maddie said in awe of the turn her life has taken. “It just doesn’t happen overnight for people like this…It’s a lot to take in but it’s been so much fun.”
Interestingly, although she suffered from nerves during the American Idol competition, Maddie is freeling pretty relaxed these days. Even performing live on the Radio Disney Music Awards didn’t ruffle her feathers. “It think it’s just because I’m enjoying it,” she mused
It was a thrill to meet Kevin Jonas when she played the Hollywood Bowl, but Maddie admits that her biggest starstruck moment came at the Radio Disney Music Awards when she met the OG American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson. “She was so humble,” Maddie said of the singer, whom she presented the RMDA Icon Award, along with The Voice winner, Brynn Cartelli. “…so down to earth. There was something so special and different about her.” Maddie added. “It was like she didn’t even know she was Kelly Clarkson!”
“She is one person I’ve met,” said Maddie, “…I want to be her!”
The American Idol Live! tour with the Top 7 and Season 8 winner Kris Allen begins on July 11. Maddie confirmed that she’s working on a cover performance with Caleb Lee Hutchinson, who she also happens to be dating.
“We’re going to write [an original] eventually,” she added, “But its a cover for right now.”

One of Maddie’s recent appearances was at the Opening Ceremony for the Special Olympics, which took place in Seattle, Washington. ABC aired the event. Check out Maddie singing “Going Going Gone” for the crowd.
