American Idol 16 winner Maddie Poppe releases dreamy new love song “SOS I’m in Love”
Maddie Poppe released a new single on Friday (Sept 1) titled “SOS I’m In Love.” The American Idol season 16 singer has been touring the country this summer alongside fellow American Idol alum Meghan Danielle, and will continue touring on a string of dates opening for Joshua Radin in September before opening for Nick Carter’s Who I Am tour in October.
“I had the best time writing this song, one that’s very close to my heart,” The American Idol season 16 winner shared in a press statement. “I’ve found that falling in love is full of all kinds of emotions, both good, bad, and in between. I’ve also found it’s a very scary thing, full of risks, doubts and worries at every turn. Fearing that it may not end how you had hoped.”
“But sometimes, you fall so quick that you don’t really have a choice. You don’t care about the risk and you find yourself going all in with this person, because the overwhelming feeling of love outweighs any worries and fears you may have had about it falling apart,” said Maddie.
“That’s what this song is all about.” Maddie said of the track written by herself, Jess Grommet, Willie Morrison and Corey Elizabeth Grogan. “Accidentally falling in love, but willing to completely let your guard down because you know it’s the real thing.”
The unabashed love song comes after Maddie revealed on social media that she is dating Gabe Burdulis, a Nashville based singer-songwriter and guitarist. Back in July the singer posted a photo on social media of herself and a guy looking pretty cozy together. She simply captioned it. “Happy.”

According to his website, Gabe is currently on the road touring as a guitarist with country music artist Brittany Spencer. The two have toured with artists such as Willie Nelson, Brandi Carlile and Maren Morris. The Madison, WI native also has released solo music, but his last single was in 2018. He recorded and self-produced a full length album titled Youth City in 2014 after moving to Nashville.
He supported another country artist, Brooke Eden when she played the Today Show and performed with with Micah Nelson aka “Particle Kid” at Farm Aid. He’s had songs featured on television shows like The Young and the Restless.
This new romance comes after Maddie broke up with Caleb Lee Hutchinson last year. The two met as contestants on American Idol in 2018. She won the show, while he came in second place. Host Ryan Seacrest revealed their romance during the LIVE finale. The couple returned to American Idol in 2022 to perform a duet in the Great Idol Reunion special. Maddie confirmed they were no longer together in a radio interview.
