In her new single, “Renegade Jane” Makayla Phillips declares her independence from men. “I swing on my own vine cause I don’t need a Tarzan in my life.” The singer insists. She is also free to say f*** and flash the middle finger throughout the music video for the new song. She’s not a kid anymore, people!
Makayla is fresh off of competing in the American Idol season 18 Comeback. She and 9 other Top 20 contestants from last season finally got an opportunity to perform on the big stage. Unfortunately, COVID hit a few weeks before the American Idol live shows were supposed to kick off last year. The result–the contestants headed home, where they received iPhones and ring lights in the mail to stream their performances from their living rooms, bedrooms, garages etc.
Runner-up Arthur Gunn garnered the most votes, winning the Comeback. But although Makayla’s performance of Demi Lovato’s “Anyone” didn’t advance her to the T0p 10, the singer didn’t miss a beat. She had a new song and video queued up and ready to take advantage of her latest exposure on American Idol.
