March came in like a lamb with 1 milestone and leaves like a lion with 8.
Gabby Barrett becomes the first contestant from the rebooted American Idol to have a top 5 radio airplay hit. “I Hope” was written by Gabby, John Nite and Zachary Kale before being released Independently. The single resulted in her getting signed by Warner Music Nashville and it is now top 5 on Country.
Also on Country, we see two additional milestones. Morgan Wallen from “The Voice” goes top 10 while Carrie Underwood, winner of Season 4 of Idol, goes top 20. “Drinking Alone” is the fourth single off of Carrie’s “Cry Pretty” which is her 6th studio album. That album was released in 2018 as was “If I Know Me” which contains “Chasin’ You”. “Chasin’ You” is Morgan’s fourth single from that album (the previous 2 going to number one).
Morgan Wallen also achieves a top 40 on HAC as his “Heartless” collaboration with Diplo continues to climb. Camila Cabello’s “My Oh My” achieves top 20 on HAC and top 40 on AC this week. A blast from the past sees “Work From Home” by Fifth Harmony (Camila’s old group) returning to AC this week. I guess it is a bit of an anthem given today’s social distancing and working from home.
Harry Styles used to also be part of a successful group who has put together a successful solo career. “Adore You” has gone top 5 on Pop.
Finally, Idol’s Colton Dixon achieves a second milestone in as many weeks. “Miracles” goes top 30 on AC and will likely be the debut single for his TBA album.
