Six milestones to celebrate this Monday Morning before Halloween.
Billboard confirms that Niall Horan tops the Billboard 200 and Album sales chart this week with his debut album “Flicker”. “Flicker” moved 152K equivalent albums. Of those, 128K were in sales (90K physical, 38K digital), 17K SEAs and 6K TEAs. Billboard notes that One Direction becomes just the second band to have three of its members top the BB200. The other group? The Beatles who saw Paul McCartney, John Lennon and George Harrison top the chart multiple times. The other two members of 1D to top the BB200 were the only other two to release albums: Zayn Malik and Harry Styles. Zayn’s “Mind of Mine” was the first opening with 157K combined (112K in sales) while “Harry Styles” was the biggest with 230K combined (193K in sales). Billboard also has an article about Niall thanking people for the number one.
One more thing Niall has to be thankful for this week? Another milestone notched on his guitar. His third single “Too Much to Ask” goes top 40 on HAC this week (and is sitting just outside the top 30 on Pop). His previous single “Slow Hands” still sits in the top 5 on HAC (top 10 on Pop and just outside the top 10 on AC).
Liam Pyne is also celebrating multiple songs on a single chart. His second single “Bedroom Floor” arrives at 47th on the Pop chart. His first single “Strip that Down” is still in the top 5 of that format after topping the chart for two weeks. Liam Payne’s album is expected in Q1 of 2018 and he has a good chance of becoming the fourth member of One Direction to top the BB200.
Also releasing in Q1 next year is Camila Cabello. She’s also working her second single – “Havana” featuring Young Thug. The song celebrates two milestones this week: top 10 on Pop and top 30 on HAC. Could this be her first solo single to reach the top 10 on Pop? It seems very likely
We get a rare radio milestone from The Voice this week. Danielle Bradbery won the fourth Season of the Voice and is one of the franchises biggest successes. This week, her “Sway” entered the top 50 on Country radio. “Sway” is the debut single off her upcoming album (December 1st) called “I Don’t Believe We’ve Met”.
Another winner to get a milestone this week is Season 10 Idol winner Scotty McCreery. “Five More Minutes” goes top 30 on Country. The song actually officially went top 30 previously on the published charts, but our numbers are collected Monday morning. Returning to the AC chart is the Season Idol 11 winner’s “Miles” (Phillip Philips).
Let’s end by talking about the one that started it all in the US, Kelly Clarkson. Kelly has a new album out on Friday and “Meaning of Life” is topping the iTunes album chart. The debut single from that album “Love So Soft” is top 22 on Pop, top 11 on HAC and top 13 on AC. “It’s Quiet Uptown” from the Hamilton mixed tape returns to the AC chart.
