Four milestones to ring in Cyber Monday.
On the Christmas front (in full flight since Thanksgiving is over), Pentatonix is racing up the chart with their latest offering “The Prayer”. That’s not actually a Christmas song – it was written by Katherine McPhee’s husband for a movie called “Quest for Camelot” which is animated film long forgotten by most (although it did feature a lot of big names). But, if it vaguely religious words and is released by Pentatonix during the Christmas season, it is now a Christmas song (see “Hallelujah”). On the other hand, any song you can sing along to off-key in your car is welcome to the Christmas pantheon. Pentatonix should sing “Gloria” next Christmas. If it sounds like I’m ragging on Pentatonix, I’m not. This is a great version and I love this group. And to be fair, this is not the first time “The Prayer” has been released as a Christmas song. Pentatonix’s “The Prayer” is now top 20 on AC.
Survivor Chase Rice rolls back onto the charts this week with “If I were Rock and Roll”. This rockin’ Country song is the lead off single for his TBA album. Chase’s last hit was “Drinkin’ Bear, Talkin’ God, Amen” which went to number one on Country airplay earlier this year and was his highest charter on the Hot 100 (rising to 24th).
Normani, from X-Factor USA, tames another milestone this week with her Cardi B. collaboration “Wild Side”. The song has previously been number one on Urban and is now top 15 on Rhythmic. The song also returns to the UR&B chart.
Finally, we see Danny Gokey’s “Stand in Faith” rise to number 10 on the CAC chart. It’s lost its bullet, but that is common across the chart. The format is moving to start playing Christmas songs, but Danny’s song should be well-placed for rising for after the new year.
On the BB200 chart, Adele’s “30” crushes previous sales numbers for 2021 by moving 839K equivalent albums. She hasn’t released an album since 2015, but nobody has forgotten her. Of those 839K, 692K were actual albums sales. And if you don’t think that’s a lot, this one week makes the album the best selling album of 2021. This album is going to stuff a lot of stockings. The BB article has lots of other fun stats. In other news, Morgan Wallen had the 5th highest charting album this week with “Dangerous” The Double Album” moving 48K (+6% over last week).
