It’s Christmas. Radio is frozen. There are no recurrents, many songs are in free-fall as radio gets subsumed by Christmas songs (and next week it will be countdown shows). So, just get another glass of eggnog and don’t sweat the details.
But, there are milestones, 5 to be exact.
Kelly Clarkson continues to reign over the Christmas songs that have been released in the last years (Christmas songs go recurrent in all formats after one year-otherwise, Mariah Carey would be topping everything. “All I Want for Christmas” is a perma-monster on the Christmas download and airplay charts. Every year. Without stop…back on topic…). Her original “Underneath the Christmas Tree” spends its fourth week on top of the AC chart and last week, I should have mentioned that it is also in the top 50 on the HAC chart.
Leona Lewis, from X-Factor UK, is also having success with an original Christmas song. “One More Sleep” accelerates into the top 20 on AC. Over on CAC, Jason Castro’s “Gloria (Hark! The Herald Angels Sing)” also moves into the top 20 and Colton Dixon’s “Jingle Bells” achieves top 30.
Representing the non-Christmas songs is One Direction. Their “Story of My Life” moves into the top 20 on HAC. The song actually sounds more like a HAC song that crossed over onto Pop, so its not surprising that this song is having more success in that format than 1D often does. The song is in the top 15 in Pop and is thinking about top 10.
Fantasia is featured on Joe’s “Love & Sex” which returned to the top 20 this week.
HDD announced that they are taking the rest of the year off, so I’m not expecting to see predictions from them this week. You never know with those cheeky goofs, though.
