The event will take place at Central Park in New York City and is expected to draw a crowd of 60,000. The concert will also stream live on NBCNews.com and Today.com.
On Saturday, September 27, at 9 pm, NBC News will air a 1 hour special that will feature highlights from the concert. On Friday, September 26, Carrie Underwood will make a special appearance on the Today Show to discuss her involvement with the festival, which shines a spotlight on digital activism.

NEW YORK – September 22, 2014 – NBC News and MSNBC will air the first-ever live broadcast of the Global Citizen Festival – a concert headlined by JAY Z, Alicia Keys, No Doubt, Carrie Underwood, fun., The Roots and Tiësto – which is expected to draw 60,000 people to Central Park’s Great Lawn on Saturday, Sept. 27. The host committee of this year’s Global Citizen Festival will be led by Hugh Jackman, other celebrities and world leaders. As the official media partners, NBC News will air a one-hour primetime special and MSNBC will carry the full concert on cable and msnbc.com.
Tamron Hall will host an NBC News primetime special that airs Saturday, Sept. 27 at 9 p.m. ET, featuring highlights from concert headliners with limited commercial interruptions. Viewers will also hear the stories of ‘Global Citizens’ – ordinary people who created extraordinary change through digital activism in the areas of vaccines, education, sanitation and water – and learn about their passion to bring an end to extreme poverty by 2030. Viewers can also tune in to “TODAY” on Friday, Sept. 26, when Carrie Underwood will make a special appearance and discuss her involvement with the Global Citizen Festival. The concert will stream live on NBCNews.com and TODAY.com.
Chris Hayes and Alex Wagner will host MSNBC’s comprehensive coverage starting at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 27, live from Central Park. MSNBC’s Ronan Farrow and Joy Reid will be backstage providing live interviews with world leaders and celebrity guests.
