Sigh. 2016 is turning out to be a no good very bad very sad year for pop music lovers. Yet another music icon has died. Prince the legendary and innovative musical genius, has died at age 57. According to TMZ:
Prince’s body was discovered at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota early Thursday morning.
Multiple sources connected to the singer confirmed he had passed.
The singer — full name Prince Rogers Nelson — had a medical emergency on April 15th that forced his private jet to make an emergency landing in Illinois. But he appeared at a concert the next day to assure his fans he was okay. His people told TMZ he was battling the flu.
Prior to his most recent appearance however, Prince had cancelled two shows due to health concerns.
Like the late David Bowie who died earlier this year, Prince was a true innovator. He crossed genres and color lines. He distilled rock/pop/soul/blues sounds from the past into work that was fresh, new and exciting. Back in the 80’s he married rock and soul music together seamlessly, and influenced a whole host of artists who came after him.
At only 57, Prince is gone way too soon. Rip Prince.
Because the artist was notoriously protective of his copyright, Prince Youtube Videos are are to come by.
