Niall Horan releases 3rd studio album ‘The Show,’ stops by The Today Show, Blake Shelton finally congratulates him!

Former One Direction member and The Voice coach Niall Horan releases The Show, his third studio album, via Capitol Records. Revealing the immense growth and life experience he’s gained since 2020’s Heartbreak Weather – an album made in his early 20s – the result is a deeply felt and endlessly spellbinding statement on following your heart to its absolute truth, states the press release.

Additionally, Niall shared the official video for the album’s title track. Directed by Connor Brashier (Kygo, Shawn Mendes), the video was shot at the Downtown Palace, a downtown Los Angeles theatre that dates back to the vaudeville era. As a crew rushes around preparing for the evening’s concert, Niall performs “The Show,” accompanying himself on piano.

“The Show” was the first song Niall worked on for the new album. The track reflects on the human desire to control the uncontrollable, but then gently urges the listener to fully embrace life for all its messiness. He wrote it late one summer night in 2020, after his tour in support of Heartbreak Weather had been cancelled due to the pandemic. The singer sat down at the piano and spontaneously composed a song that would come to define a whole new era of his career.

On The Show, Niall worked with a close-knit circle of collaborators, including Julian Bunetta (Thomas Rhett, SG Lewis), Amy Allen (Halsey, Sam Smith), Jamie Scott (Jessie Ware, Rag’n’Bone Man) and producers John Ryan and Joel Little.

Check out tracks from The Show, including official videos and performances on The Voice, The Jonathan Ross Show and more.

Niall performed on Today with a surprise from Blake Shelton

The singer joined NBC’s The Voice this season and nabbed his first win as a coach with contestant Gina Miles. He recently performed “Meltdown,” another song from the album, on the show. Niall is set to return to The Voice for another season as coach this fall.

To celebrate the album’s release (June 9), Niall performed in New York City as part of the Citi Summer Concert Series on TODAY. In an interview with People, Niall said that after his win, his fellow coach, Blake Shelton, who served his last season ever on the show, didn’t congratulate him.

“When we left the seat, they announced the winner and I stood up, and then he came for a big hug,” Niall shared with People. “I gave him a big hug, and he said, ‘I taught you everything you know.’ That’s all he said, not congratulations or anything.”

But in a video message on Today, Blake joked, “I wrote it into the script that you were going to win The Voice…Congrats buddy!”

Niall has sold over 80 million records and toured the globe multiple times as part of the iconic One Direction, the chart topping group put together in 2010 on Simon Cowell’s UK competition show, The X Factor.

After making his festival debut at Boston Calling last month, he will be playing festivals around the globe this summer. He’ll embark on a global headline tour next February.
