Nicki Minaj would return to judge American Idol for the right price (which she names)

American Idol season 12 is notorious for its volatile judges panel which featured Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey who famously and OBVIOUSLY did not get along. The two singers only lasted a year on the panel, while fellow judges, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson stayed on with the show.

“How much money would it take for you to be a judge on American Idol again?”

On a recent episode of Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, during the “Plead the Fifth” segment, host Andy Cohen asked Niki “How much money would it take for you to be a judge on American Idol again?” The rapper thought for a minute and responded “Well, uh… $30 [million],” she said. “Yeah.”

Andy responded, “She knows her price! I like it!

As if American Idol producers would invite her back on the show, ever, for any price. But certainly not for a price they’re (maybe) paying current judge, Katy Perry.

Niki judged American Idol back in 2013. At that time, FOX was airing X Factor in the fall, while NBC was killing with it’s shiny new toy, The Voice. American Idol ratings were falling. And it was about to get worse. After two successful seasons with Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler on the panel, they exited. American Idol needed two new stars, so they brought on Mariah and Nicki.

Like working with Satan

The story goes that producers promised Mariah that she would be the only female on the panel. Nicki was a last minute addition, and Mimi resented it. Right from the start, the two bickered in front of the contestants. During auditions, the two fought, and Nicki walked off the set, while Mariah cursed her out. TMZ posted leaked video. Producers could edit around blowups during taped segments. But once the show went live, the shade and microaggressions flew back and forth.

Since then, Mariah has called out American Idol, dissing her experience, comparing working with Nicki to working with Satan. On the other hand, Nicki has had nothing negative to say. She even sent in a congratulatory taped message for the FOX farewell show back in 2016. She had no hard feelings. Which is a separate thing from “show me the money!” Heh.
