Emotions ran high as One Direction performed “Infinity” and their new single, “History” from their new album, Made in the A.M., on the X Factor UK finale.
The group got their start as contestants during the 2010 season of the show. Five short years later, One Direction are worldwide superstars, with five hit studio albums under their collective belts.
A few months after group member, Zayn Malik, decided to leave the group, the remaining four members–Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne–decided to take a hiatus to rest and pursue solo projects.
Sunday’s performance could have very well been the very last time the singers perform together as a group for a long time. The man who discovered them, Simon Cowell, and a slew of celebrities, were featured in a cute see-you-later video to bid the boys goodbye. Danny Devito, James Corden, Little Mix, and more sent their best wishes.
“History” ended in a huge group hug and to deafening cheers from the crowd.
