Are you guys following the Paula Deen saga? It just took a turn for the totally weird today, after which, the Food Network announced that it would NOT be renewing the southern comfort food guru’s contract.
It came to light in the past few days, that Deen admitted to using that horrible racial slur that begins with an N in the past, and that she wanted to throw a Southern, plantation-style wedding for her brother Bubba (OMG), complete with middle-aged black men dressed as slaves.
These revelations came from a deposition for a case where a former employee of their Savannah, Georgia restaurant, claimed the brother subjected her to sexist, racist and violent behavior. Eep.
“Food Network will not renew Paula Deen’s contract when it expires at the end of this month,” the network said in a statement today
After cancelling a Today show appearance, Deen posted an apology video, that was quickly taken down when the response to it was less than favorable. Ahem. She BEGS for forgiveness, several times. Not only does it not seem sincere, but seems to be ripped right off of SNL. It’s been removed from Youtube, but TMZ still has it posted.
Then, a brand NEW apology was quickly put up. This one is better, but it was too little too late, as The Food Network announced, soon after, that they cut her loose.
I can’t say that I blame them. Talk about giving southerners a bad name.
