Paula Deen tearfully defended herself on the Today Show this morning against allegations that she’s racist.
“I know how I treat people,” a tearful Dean told Today’s Matt Lauer, “I know my love for people, and I’m not gonna sit here and tell everything I have done for people of color … somebody else can tell that.”
“If there’s anyone out there that has never said something that they wish they could take back, if you’re out there, please pick up that stone and throw it so hard at my head that it kills me, please I want to meet you,” she said. “I is what I is and I’m not changing.”
Did Paula Deen defend herself successfully, or is it too little too late? I think she’ll be forgiven, eventually. Although she’s lost her Food Network show and a deal with a ham company, her Georgia restaurant business is booming. Eventually, she’ll be back on television, I think.
Speaking of her Food Network show. Her audience had dropped 25% in and ratings in the 25-54 demo shrunk 32% in 2013. The network may have cancelled her eventually anyway.
