American Idol winner Phillip Phillips “Dancing with Your Shadows” climbs into the Top 15 on the Hot AC radio chart
Phillip Phillips has spent the past few weeks giddily watching his single, “Dancing with Your Shadows” climb the Hot AC radio play charts. Recently, the song entered the Top 15, and as of Monday September 11 the song sits at No 13 on Mediabase.
Additionally, the song, from the American Idol season 11 winner’s latest album Drift Back, reached No. 20 on American Top 40 with Ryan Seacrest, the Hot AC chart. Over on Billboard, “Dancing with Your Shadows” sits at No. 18 on the Adult Pop Airplay chart.
The radio play is impressive, considering that Phillip is an independent artist releasing music with the help of managers and reps, but no record label, major label OR independent. The singer recorded three albums with Interscope Records after his American Idol win in 2012. The singer’s coronation single “Home” went 4x Platinum. They parted ways in 2019.

In a cute video, Phillip’s toddler son Patch helps dad announce that the song hit No 15 (It’s higher now!). “Let’s go baby!” shouts Patch mimicking his father, but adding, “Let’s go baby fart pee pee!” OK then! Kids. Phillip writes, “Song is Top 15!!! Thanks to every one of you!! Let’s do this!”
Last week, Phillip and his band appeared on Live with Kelly and Mark to perform “Dancing with Your Shadows.” Watch the performance below. He also recently performed the single on the Today Show.
A Grand Ole Opry debut
Additionally, Phillip recently made his Grand Ole Opry debut. The Opry posted a video clip chronicling his big day. “I never thought I would be asked to do this,” Phillip admits in the video, noting that while he grew up in the country (South Georgia) he does not sing country music. He added, “It’s such an honor. I’m really nervous and excited to be here.” Phillip described how he arranged a more intimate, acoustic version of “Dancing with Your Shadows” to sing on the Opry stage. (Watch).
