Phillip Phillips releases the emotional ‘Drift Back,’ the American Idol 2012 winner’s first album in five years
Phillip Phillips drops his long awaited fourth studio album Drift Back today (June 9). The set is available to download and stream on all platforms.
The American Idol season 11 winner writes, “The years that have passed since my last album have truly been life changing. The world tilted on its axis. I became a dad. I grew in my marriage. I learned to parent and be a husband during a pandemic.”
Phillip Phillips New Song is Inspired by Wife’s Health Struggles
He continues, “This album reflects the wins and losses I experienced during those years. I have learned, loved, and lived. I am excited to drift back to what I’ve always loved with my fans and that is music. I am so proud of this album and how it puts my soul into song and brings you all into my life a little bit more, for better or for worse. Let’s drift back to the good stuff.”
The new album is Phillip’s first in five years. “This album holds some of my favorite songs I’ve ever written, including the new single “Before I Loved You…get ready for NEW MUSIC this summer!”
Previous releases by Phillip includes Collateral in January 2018. Before that Behind the Light came out in 2014. And he released his post-Idol debut The World for the Side of the Moon in 2012, six months after his American Idol win.
The new set, Drift Back is Phillip’s first independently released album. The first three albums were released as part of his post-show record deal with 19 Recordings/Interscope Recordings. He and the label parted ways a few years after a messy legal struggle with 19 Entertainment.
Listen to the full album Drift Back below. The songs are some of the most emotional Phillip has written to date. Highly recommend.
