Comparing American Idol, The Masked Singer, The Voice Ratings
With the television midseason well underway, let’s do a ratings check of the singing shows. The Voice was the last to premiere, earlier this week, and have only aired two episodes. These numbers are final overnight ratings, except where noted.
American Idol had a slow first week. But the premiere still won the night for ABC in terms of the 18-49 demo. February 19 fell on a holiday week and the night was sleepy for TV ratings overall. However, the show picked up pace for week 2 and 3, winning the demo both weeks again, nabbing a 0.73 and 0.72 respectively.
According to a press release “American Idol‘s two-hour premier…hitting 6.9M viewers and a 0.8 demo rating in L+7. When factoring in digital viewing, the episode soared to a multi-platform audience of 8.3M and a 1.4 rating.
The Voice on NBC got off to a solid start, but didn’t match American Idol’s numbers for week 2 and 3. It did best the premiere, however. The 0.69 rating on Monday won the demo that night, and the 0.50 rating for Tuesday’s 1 hour episode was only bested by the show’s lead in, Night Court, which earned a 0.55 rating in the demo.
The Masked Singer still earns solid ratings for FOX, but the mighty have fallen, for sure. The series premiered on January 2, 2019, when it garnered a whopping 3.0 in the 18-49 demo and 9.36M viewers. The numbers never fell below 2.2 that first season.
