The Voice’s Reba McEntire sings National Anthem at Super Bowl LVIII, DWTS alum Daniel Durant signs
Country star Reba McEntire performed the National Anthem at Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sunday (Feb 11).
The Voice coach sang a confident and assured rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. With a hint of a country twang, Reba added few embellishments to perform a straightforward rendition of the song. At one point, a player has tears rolling down his eyes, but it has to be overwhelming to be part of the big game. Still–a perfect TV moment.
Notably, Reba mentioned on The Voice that her first big break came 50 years ago when she sang the National Anthem at the 1974 National Finals Rodeo in her home state of Oklahoma. At 19, and coming from a rodeo family, it was a dream she had all of her life
Ahead of the big game, Reba shared about her preparation at a press conference. “I prepare by being prepared,” she said. “I’ve been singing the national anthem in the shower, when we get in the car… Rex (Linn), my boyfriend, is a huge football fan. He’ll say, ‘Sing it one more time.’ I’ll say, ‘I think i know the words real good right now, so I’m all right.’”
Reba will next be seen as a coach on The Voice season 25 premiering on NBC February 25. The singer debuted on the singing competition last fall on season 24. Also, NBC has ordered a pilot for a multi-camera comedy starring Reba which will be helmed by the team responsible her last two sitcoms, The WB’s Reba and ABC’s Malibu Country. Reba will star as a woman who “inherits her father’s restaurant and is less than thrilled to discover that she has a new business partner in the half-sister she never knew she had.”
