The UK singer/songwriter has been making waves on this side of the Atlantic for his passionate and emotion-laden performances. His new album, In The Lonely Hour is set to be released in the US, tomorrow, June 17.
Sam also made news when he came out as gay following the release of his latest music video, “Leave Your Lover,” which is about his unrequited love for another man.
He told The Fader: “I’ve tried to be clever with this album, because it’s also important to me that my music reaches everybody.
“I’ve made my music so that it could be about anything and everybody— whether it’s a guy, a female or a goat—and everybody can relate to that.
“I’m not in this industry to talk about my personal life unless it’s in a musical form.”
Adam Lambert had his own experience coming out shortly after his stint on American Idol in 2009. The singer said of Sam to the Daily Star, “It’s hard because even though things have changed a lot since I came out it’s still a drama or talking point.
“He told me he has never had an issue about his sexuality until now because everyone is making such a big deal about it which is crazy.”
