Oh no. Simon Cowell broke his back on Saturday afternoon (Aug 8) while test riding his electric bicycle in Malibu, California. The music mogul is currently in the hospital and will have surgery.
“Simon had a fall from his bike on Saturday afternoon whilst testing his new electric bike in the courtyard at his house in Malibu with his family,” a spokesperson for Simon told reporters. “He hurt his back and was taken to the hospital. He’s doing fine, he’s under observation and is in the best possible hands.”

In follow-up correspondence, the spokesperson said, “Simon has broken his back and will be having surgery this evening.”
It sounds like Simon will be fine after recovery. But the timing couldn’t be worse for the America’s Got Talent judge and executive producer. AGT LIVE shows are set to begin on Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug 11 and 12. Depending on how serious his injury is, he’ll likely miss at least part of the season while he recovers.
Additionally, Britain’s Got Talent live shows are starting soon in London. In addition to overseeing production, Simon was planning on appearing on the judges panel via remote link.
Back injuries can be serious. Hopefully, Simon will recover and be back to annoying people on television very soon.
