Surprise! The Voice coach John Legend and wife Chrissy Teigen welcome 4th child via surrogacy
Chrissy Teigen has revealed that she and husband John Legend have welcomed their fourth child. The couple managed to keep it a secret because it was via surrogacy.
On Tuesday, June 28th, Chrissy took to Instagram to share a detailed message about her decision and journey and to reveal the couple’s new baby boy, Wren Stephens.
Chrissy explains in the lengthy message that she’s always wanted four children. But after they lost their son Jack to a miscarriage, she didn’t think she’d be able to carry any more babies on her own.
“In 2021, we reached out to a surrogacy agency, with our first correspondence inquiring about perhaps having 2 tandem surrogates, to each bring us a healthy baby boy or girl,” she wrote. But at about the same time, Chrissy decided that she wanted to try and carry a baby one more time.
“And so we restarted the IVF process, the same process that gave us our beautiful Luna and Miles. We made new embryos. We did my transfer, and were so happy to learn it worked-we were pregnant with our little girl, Esti,” Chrissy shared.
But at the same time they also met “the most incredible, loving, compassionate surrogate we could ever imagine, Alexandra.”
The first embryo didn’t survive
“The first embryo we tried with Alex didn’t survive, and I will never forget how hard she fought to get ready for a second transfer. How much she gave up of her own body,” Chrissy wrote. “Surgeries to get scar tissue cleared, the mental toll it takes to go through all of that for yourself, much less for other people.”
John and Chrissy learned that the second embryo took and that they were having a baby boy. This, at the same time Chrissy was carrying Esti.
“Just minutes before midnight on June 19th, I got to witness the most beautiful woman, my friend, our surrogate, give birth amidst a bit of chaos, but with strength and pure joy and love,” Chrissy wrote.
:Our hearts, and our home, are officially full,” Chrissy added, “And to our Jack, we know both their angel kisses are from you.”
The couple lost their son Jack due to complications during Chrissy’s pregnancy back in September 2020. They welcomed their third child, Esti, in January.
John Legend will return to The Voice for seasons 24 and 25
John posted photos on Instagram with the caption, “Wren Alexander Stephens our new love.” The first photo features the entire family, including older children Luna and Miles. John holds babies Esti and Wren. After skipping the Spring 2023 cycle, John Legend will return to The Voice as a coach for both seasons 24 and 25.
