A new episode of Survivor: David vs. Goliath airs tonight on CBS. Read a live recap and join the discussion here.
The episode begins with both tribes enduring heavy rainfall at night. In the morning, they struggle to create fire due to the wet firewood. Morale is down on both tribes as they are having a hard time dealing with the elements. Nonetheless, we see some game talk between Christian and Nick. Christian informs Nick that his name was on the chopping block for tribal council. Nick is appreciative of Christian, and he compares the two of them to J.T. and Stephen from Survivor: Tocantins. Nick wants to name his alliance with Christian, and he says they should call themselves Mason–Dixon Line. Later, we see both tribes get a fire-making kit and a tarp with a letter from Jeff Probst.
We next see game talk between Dan and Kara. Dan trusts Kara and Natalia the most as he only told them about his idol. Kara is worried that someone is going to find Dan’s hidden immunity idol. She also says Dan is too obvious about his alliance with her. Her suspicions are right as Jeremy and Alec assume that Dan is in a showmance with Kara. Kara goes to talk to Natalia and Angelina about Dan, but Angelina points out how she has John on her side, Natalia has Alec, and Kara has Dan. She says Dan’s not a liability yet. However, we soon see Jeremy looking through Dan’s jacket. Jeremy finds Dan’s hidden immunity idol, and he lets Mike know about it. He also assumes that Dan has already told Kara about the idol.
On the David tribe, Davie has taken the role as the provider for the tribe. He spends a lot of time looking for food, but his search allowed him to stumble upon some orange string. He pulls the string and finds a package. Davie has found a hidden immunity idol!
Carl tells us in a confessional that Nick was supposed to be voted out if Pat wasn’t medically evacuated. However, he thinks they need to switch targets to not lose too many strong people. He tells a group of people (which includes Elizabeth and Nick) that Lyrsa should go next. Elizabeth considers Lyrsa her closest ally, so she informs her what Carl said. Lyrsa is upset and wants to vote Carl out.
On the Goliath tribe, Natalie is continuing to rub her tribe the wrong way. There has been a lot of discussion about voting her out, but John is interested in working with Natalie. He says it would be an alliance no one would see coming. John sits down with Natalie and tells her that she’s on the chopping block, but to not tell anyone. However, Natalie goes up to several people and asks why is she the target. She says they are all playing “like a bunch of Davids” and amateurs for wanting to vote out the older woman. In his confessional, Jeremy says that Natalie is not helping her case at all. He tries to talk to Natalie and give her advice to have better self-awareness. However, Natalie brushes off Jeremy’s advice, which irks Jeremy. He says Natalie is his target if the Goliath tribe loses the immunity challenge.
It’s time for the immunity challenge. Jeff informs the Goliath tribe that Pat was medically evacuated and the storm they endured was a cyclone. Afterwards, he tells them the rules of the challenge. They must climb a ladder to retrieve a key to unlock a boat. They must then paddle out on the boat to retrieve bags of puzzle pieces. Lastly, they must solve a block puzzle on a wobbly table. The first tribe to complete the puzzle wins immunity. Along with immunity, they are also competing for a fishing kit. The challenge begins with Alec and Bi retrieving the key for their respective tribes. They must use ladder rungs to move up the ladder, and Alec gets a very early lead for the Goliath tribe. The Goliath tribe is already making their way back to shore by the time Bi finally gets the key. While the Goliath tribe is assembling their puzzle, the David tribe is struggling paddling back to shore. The David tribe eventually returns to shore to get started on the puzzle, and it seems the David tribe may have caught up as the Goliath tribe has yet to complete the puzzle. However, the Goliath tribe seems to have better communication with their team compared to the David tribe. While some tribe members are assembling the puzzle, other tribe members must balance the table by holding onto ropes. An hour later, both tribes are still working on the puzzle. Finally, the Goliath tribe finishes assembling the puzzle. Goliath tribe wins immunity!
The David tribe is lamenting the immunity challenge loss. Lyrsa says the Goliath tribe is seemingly invincible and the way the tribes were divided is unfair. Later, Jessica, Bi, and Gabby talk about the vote, and they say that Lyrsa is the target. However, Gabby is concerned due to how vague Bi and Jessica were with her. Meanwhile, Lyrsa and Elizabeth are wondering how to save Lyrsa, and Elizabeth suggests voting out Jessica. They say Jessica has connections with everyone on the tribe, especially with Carl and Bi. Elizabeth approaches Gabby and asks if she would be on board with voting out Jessica. Lyrsa and Christian later join the conversation and discuss voting out Jessica. Afterwards, Gabby and Christian talk about what to do, and Gabby asks Christian to have her back no matter what. Christian says it’s always been his intention to play the game with Gabby. Christian later talks to Nick about the plan to vote out Jessica. Nick tells Christian he would rather see Lyrsa get voted out first. In his confessional, Christian says he is the swing vote and that’s exactly where he wants to be.
It’s time for tribal council. Jeff asks Lyrsa about the first few days, and she says the weather has been brutal. Jeff asks Elizabeth about the social dynamic, and she says the harsh conditions have brought them together. Jeff says a family has been formed, but they have to vote each other out. Jeff asks Lyrsa about the game, and Lyrsa says she knows her name has been thrown out as a target. She says she’s just keeping her mouth shut. Jessica says the game starts Day 1, and you have to play as soon as you can to make sure it’s not your name being written down. Jeff asks more about the vote, and Bi says her vote is simple and she’s basing her vote on challenge and camp input. Jeff asks about what makes someone a target, and Nick says he’s basing his vote on trust. He adds that trust is not enough and they also need strength in the challenges too. Christian says it’s so early in the game to consider anything else other than tribe strength. Jessica says tribal council is scary, but exhilarating at the same time. Christian compares the game to a roller coaster; it’s what makes the game so exciting. Afterwards, it’s time for the vote.
Jeff reads the votes. The first vote is for…
